Swagata Biswas Unveils Debut Single and New Music Video “Lens”

Meet Swagata Biswas. Born and raised in New York City, and currently living in Seattle, WA, she is full of love, happiness, heartache, and contemplation. With her powerful, soulful, and honest voice, she draws in the attention of her audiences with her groove-centered, soul-ingrained music. At the age of seven, her parents recognized her passion for music and she began her journey with her elementary school choir, Indian classical vocal training, classical piano, and most recently, guitar. From this foundation, she began writing songs and composing music, inspired by her love for Soul, Jazz, Classic Rock, 90’sRock/Alternative, and Pop and her favorite artists such as Amy Winehouse and Norah Jones.

Indie soul artist Swagata Biswas has released a fresh and breezy new single, “Lens”, available everywhere now. Produced and recorded in New York City at Little Pioneer Cider House Studio, “Lens” marks the indie soul artist’s debut and is set to be released on September 17th, 2019.

“Lens” takes the listener on a soothing lyrical journey that swoons and glides with plucks of Biswas’s acoustic guitar. “Lens” was written while Biswas was experimenting with chords, and noticed her DSLR camera sitting on the table in front of her. “I was messing around and sang the words, ‘won’t you stand in front of my lens?’ while playing the chord progression,” she explains, “But it stuck. The lyrics and melodies thereafter came very easily and naturally, and I was able to relate a feeling to various technical aspects of photography. The concept for the song comes from how it feels to be admired by a significant other so much so that they decide to take a candid photograph to capture your beauty in the moment.

The video, starring Swagata herself, and actor/model David Kacinski, was shot in New York City by acclaimed director and cinematic visionary, Ben Fraternale. The stunning video brings the song and city to life alongside a montage of breathtaking visuals.

“When you hear a song like ‘Lens’– a song about photography that demands a spectacle– and are faced with the task of presenting it visually, you’re immediately challenged to step up to the plate as a director,” says director Ben Fraternale. “We tackled the narrative by making heavy use of unique photo techniques to put stills in motion and see the crescendoing tale of attraction through the perspective of the photographer and storyteller. I’m proud of the result and thrilled I got to collaborate with her.”
